Gender Equality is one of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2015-2030. Three Servas Canada members–Julie Cormack, Barbara Mitchell-Pollock, and Kent Macaulay–are among the 22 Servas International delegates to the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women conference, being held online from March 15-26.
This year the themes are:
- Priority theme: Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls;
- Review theme: Women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development (agreed conclusions of the sixtieth session)
Julie has a special interest in women and decision-making. Barbara’s keen interest is in how the issues of racism and gender equality intersect. Kent is focusing on how men and boys can take action to promote gender equality.
The three of them will be leading the March 14 and 28 Zoom discussions for Servas Canada members. Please consider joining in.
